South Georgia
hunting and recreational properties are known as some of the best in
the world. Evidenced by the many people from all over that come to
South Georgia to hunt and own hunting properties here. Several
presidents, vice presidents have come to South Georgia for the area's
excellent quail hunting. In addition, several large hunting
organizations have hunts here every year.

South
Georgia has a large number of highly productive farms. This
area
has a long growing season with mostly moderate winters and
summers. Most years have adequate rainfall and sometimes a
surplus. There
have been drought years but South Georgia has a large number
of irrigated farms that help to maintain production. A variety
of crops
are produced in South Georgia such as peanuts, corn, cotton,
wheat, watermelons, produce and tobacco. In addition this
area has horse
farms and numerous cattle operations. The long growing season
is also good for timber production. Paper companies, lumber
companies,
and large timber investment groups own land here. Pine is the
most produced timber located here, various hardwood species
also are
harvested in large quantities. |
